Marc Eldridge has over forty years of experience in relation to horticulture, arboriculture, grounds maintenance and sports facilities, and the management of contracted services.
Before moving to Dorset thirty years ago, Marc was head groundsman at a reputable private school in Hertfordshire. He worked in local government for twenty years, seventeen of which were served at a senior level.
Initially managing grounds maintenance and arboricultural service provision in a role of contract compliance, in 2002 his employer, Dorset county council realised the need to systematically inventorise and manage the risk posed by its tree stock within a co-ordinated strategy.
Marc was given the challenge and responsibility of bringing together the authority’s existing arboricultural activities in planning, highways, and the management of the council tree stock into one central resource, and set up and led a small team as county tree officer for five years.
More recently, his work for local government has involved tree officer duties at district council level, advising on planning matters and determining tree work applications for protected trees.
In spring 2007, Marc left Dorset county council to work in private practice, setting up SoundWood Tree Consultancy. Benefiting from the solid grounding of initial practical employment, followed by extensive local government management experience, and adopting an approach of innovation and continuous refinement, SoundWood has gained a reputation for attention to detail and a logical, pragmatic approach to the arboricultural aspects of development projects, producing clear, concise information with a focus on high quality drawings, which are easy to understand and implement. SoundWood’s other services are related to tree management and pathology. Combing a wealth of practical experience in tree management with the latest technology, SoundWood has been at the forefront of the application of GIS tree management software, and the use of acoustic tomography as a valuable tool for the detection and quantification of structural defects and decay in living trees.
Marc Eldridge holds the Higher National Certificate in Arboriculture, is Lantra certified to inspect trees at professional level, and is a long-standing professional member of the Arboricultural Association.
